What Is Feldenkrais?
The Feldenkrais Method® is named after the originator, Dr Moshe Feldenkrais ('Moy-she Fell-den-crice'). It is an innovative method of movement education that increases your awareness and sensitivity about your own movement patterns. You explore your own movement patterns, and find the ones that create discomfort and effort for you. It then teaches you new ways of refining your own movement, and avoiding pain and possible injury, including over-use syndrome (RSI). For more information, see the Felde FAQs. Who was Moshe Feldenkrais?Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, D.Sc. (1904-1984) was a Russian-born physicist, judo expert, mechanical engineer and educator. After a sports knee injury, Dr Feldenkrais explored and developed ways of refining and improving his own movement, to avoid surgery. This led to his life-long study of human movement, and the structure and function of the nervous system. Feldenkrais studied intensively in psychology, neurophysiology, and other health-related disciplines. He continued for the rest of his life to integrate and refine his ideas into the system now known world-wide as the Feldenkrais Method®. |
